Naomi + Nicholas’ album by Finao 1 comment

Getting an album back is one of the most exciting things for me. It’s the ultimate fruition of all of our efforts to capture the beauty and essence of a wedding day. It tells the whole story, it’s beautiful, and you can hold it in your hand. I’ve mentioned this before but I’m pretty much in love with Finao, the coolest album company around. When you first delve into the Finao’s options for styles and covers it can be a bit overwhelming but ultimately you can make something different and appropriate for every couple. Naomi and Nicholas’ wedding touched me to the core. They had to take a hug break to ‘cry it out’ during the ceremony and her girlfriends gave her roses to make her bouquet as she walked down the aisle; a couple after my heart with their palpable love and originality. Their wedding was lovely, classic, and cool. Here is the original post of their images.

Finao’s boxes are killer. Throw the right photo on there and it’s the perfect way to store your album.

Finao’s lovely packaging using recycled material.

They have two page styles, thick and thin. I love them both. This is the thick page.

New York, New York

This is an extra special post for me as these are two of my dearest friends. It’s a magical thing when two good friends get married and I always feel honored and lucky to document their love and this special time in their lives. Ben is an amazing documentary film maker and has always been very supportive of my photography, which made it extra fun to create images for them. Check one of his films out here.

Here are a few of my favorite images from their wedding and the session we did in Coney Island a few days later. Coney Island is one of my favorite places in New York -couple it with my favorite people and I’m a happy girl. I love you Ben and Katharine, wishing you a lifetime of great things together.

This image taken by my awesome associate photographer Kiersten Rowland.

This shot was Ben’s idea. He has two photos that I took in his bathroom of Questlove of The Roots washing his face. He wanted both of us in the picture with my photos on the wall.

I love this image Kiersten took of all of Ben’s guys sending him off.

Another great one by Kiersten of Ben seeing Katharine for the first time.

While I was taking a similar photograph, Kiersten snapped this masterpiece. I love it!

They had their wedding and reception at a photo studio called Sunwest Studios. First dance on the Cyc wall.

Prospect Park Picnic House, Brooklyn, New York

This wedding took place in the fall in my home town, or my self-defined home town as I’ve lived all over the country with many years and my heart, in Brooklyn. I came to know Naomi and Nicholas through my friend and awesome San Francisco photographer Matthew Reamer who was also the officiant for their wedding. My good friend DJ Platurn kept everyone dancing and happy with great tunes. It was a beautiful, touching wedding, filled with tears, joy, and amazing people. Nicholas brewed his own beer with names like ‘Empire Stout of Mind’ and ‘Pitcher Me Rollin”…. It was AMAZING, I’d buy lots of it if I could. Prospect Park is a very special place for me, I’ve spent a lot of time wandering it’s woods, hills, and lakes. I even taught my dog Pancho to swim at the dog beach, it is a wonderful oasis in the heart of the city. I was really excited when Naomi told me that they were into the idea of spending some time before the wedding wandering around the park to take photos. It was the perfect combination of a magical place, two equally wonderful people who found each other and will continue to enrich each others lives (and at least one more… there’s a bun in the oven!… Pregnancy photo session this summer!), and all of the smart, talented, loving people that came from far and wide to share this moment and support their union.  Naturally Delicious had The Picnic House and ceremony area looking enchanting with decorations, planned the wedding flawlessly, and had everyone’s mouths watering with really special food. Special thanks to the lovely and talented Lindsey Thorne for doing a great job of second shooting. Congratulations Nicholas and Naomi!

I love this shot of Matthew waving to all of the ladies as he walks down the aisle to officiate the ceremony.

Naomi had such a great bouquet idea. Each of her girlfriends held a rose for her and as she walked down the aisle she greeted them and accepted their flowers until she had a full bouquet! Those girls had her in tears by the time she reached her parents who were waiting to walk her down the aisle. It was a beautiful sight.

There came a point during the ceremony where nobody under the Chupppah could keep it together including their friend Matthew the officiant. Nicholas decided to take a moment to ‘hug it out’. Lovely.

Grandma’s hands.

Kat from Crown City Rockers played piano while their friend sang Stevie Wonder’s ‘Ribbon in the Sky’.

I adore this photograph of Naomi’s grandmother watching Naomi and Nicholas so proudly.

Photobooth time!!
